Traditions and cultures have always been widely followed in India, and that is what makes India unique, really. But let's face it, tagged along with these traditions come the uncountable, rather annoying superstitions. Most of them are baseless, and some are simply absurd, and in an attempt to bust these superstitions, I've decided to list some.
Pzzt, I couldn't help being somewhat sarcastic, so if you can't handle sarcasm, maybe skip this for now.
A cat crossing your way is bad omen.
Cats are living creatures. They have work to do. I can't fathom how a cat crossing the road could affect one in any way, or how it could be made up for by letting someone else go through the area first.
Don't wash your hair on Tuesdays or Thursdays, or any particular day.
My hair is dirty. And I prefer being clean, any day of the week.
Playing with scissors causes fights.
I'm all for safety around scissors, but I really don't understand how they could cause fights, unless someone intentionally starts one?!
An itchy palm means you'll find money.
Okay, in that case, Bill Gates' palm must itch a lot? Why else would he be a billionaire?!
The Evil eye.
This is the most prevalent one. You are not feeling well lately, or you have had some minor accident, leads to only one conclusion - you have been prey to the evil eye. Not only do we whole heartedly believe in the evil eye, we also have innumerable solutions for it, like the lemon and chili maneuver, or applying Kohl on particular parts of our faces!
Left hand is impure.
I'm left handed. Enough said.
Eye twitching is a bad sign.
Let's put it like this. The only way in which it is bad is if it starts to hurt or itch in which case it's probably an eye infection.
The number 3.
This superstition is the most annoying one. I have a brother and a sister, which means we are three siblings, I can't understand how it could hurt anybody. Why such an aversion to one particular number? Beats me.
Not everyone believes in all of these superstitions, but at some point, any liberal minded person has experienced the frustration that these superstitions can cause.
