Get off of that screen for a while!

Social media websites have been in the spotlight for quite a while now, and no one is oblivious to them. Although all of us have our own lists of reasons to be dependent on social networking websites, we all have the same confession to make - we are addicted to social media. Most people justify the time they spend on these sites to be spent in order to catch up with friends or to stay updated. Some of us use it as a medium for letting our ideas and opinions reach a wider audience (And that's what I am doing right now!)
But the bottom line is that we all spend the majority of our time on these websites, and our lives basically run on the shallow, judgmental virtual world that is social media.

Let us all devote a minute to think about this: How many of us personally know even 50 per cent of our Facebook friends? Guilty! Apparently, the amount of Facebook friends and followers we have specify our status in society, and the number of likes on our Instagram pictures determine how beautiful we are. Not to mention the fact that the comments and likes on our status updates are, in all likelihood, proportional to our wit and wisdom! Being concerned with such pointless notions questions our own intellect and reveals the need and urgency to get our minds off our computer screens (and mobile phones, too) for a while.

Obviously, we cannot eliminate Facebook, Twitter and Instagram from our lives completely, but what we can do is use them in moderation, instead of checking them every ten minutes. Social networking sites are addictive and influence us in ways we do not seem to understand, nevertheless, we cannot ignore their eminence in some fields of life.

Basically, it all depends on how we utilize and handle them. These sites have the potential to let people reconnect with family and old friends; Skype and video chats being useful in terms of long distance relationships and for those away from family. The e-network serves as an excellent platform for growing one's connections and for letting businesses advertise by finding the right audience. With a pertinent marketing strategy in hand and a suitable platform via social websites such as LinkedIn and Facebook, anyone can find their business prospering in a flash!

This is the efficacy of networking - it shrinks the world and bridges distant people. However, we need to understand that there is more to social networking than enjoying the satisfaction of gaining likes. Keeping in mind the busy structure of life, direct meetings and one on one interactions are not possible and this is where social media comes into the picture. It is inevitable, no doubt; however, interacting with real people is always better than living in a virtual world inside a screen all day long. But when it comes down to this, one should be able to leave this screen by will and enjoy time with family and friends in the actual world.

My opinion on - Inferno by Dan Brown

[Warning - Contains Spoilers] Released last year, Inferno is Dan Brown's fourth book in the Robert Langdon Series, the other three being Angels and Demons, The Da vinci Code and The Lost Symbol . Inferno isn't much different from the others, it was a page-turner like all his other books. The story takes off with Langdon waking up in a Hospital in Italy and suffering from retrograde amnesia. A female doctor named Sienna Brooks lets him know of his whereabouts and accompanies him in his journey which includes a sequence of interesting events, involving, of course, a lot of codes and symbols, and the story picks up pace thereafter. There are various puzzle pieces that Langdon needs to put together, which are made up by a ludicrous (also, dead) Geneticist named Bertrand Zobrist, who [SPOILERS] wants to cut down the population of the world by four billion. He commits suicide right at the beginning of the book, but not before creating a plague by the means of which he wan...

21-Day Blogging Marathon | Day 1: 5 Things That Make Me Happy

In the midst of the world locking down, and given the additional amount of time on our hands, I have decided to participate in a 21-day blogging marathon. This is inspired by the 30-day writing challenge on https://lifeentirely.wordpress.com – I have picked up some cool and interesting topics from this blog and customized them to suit my own style. Hope you enjoy it! Day 1: 5  Things That Make Me Happy  I like to observe all the things around me and I greatly enjoy the little pleasures of life. Here I am listing 5 random things that bring me a lot of joy: 1. Books, bookshelves, bookstores: I find books to be very beautiful objects. What’s not to love about them? The smell, the feel of the pages, the happiness they give you when they are neatly stacked on a bookshelf next to each other, arranged by genre, author or even color. The sheer number of stories and characters they hold within themselves, and just knowing that you can get to be a p...

Entrepreneurship in India

Editor-in-chief of MiLLENNiAL magazine, Britt Hysen, writes - 60 percent Millenials think of themselves as entrepreneurs, and 90 percent of them consider entrepreneurship to be a mentality. Let's take a look at the latter half of the sentence. Entrepreneurship as a mentality. This is what Entrepreneurship is perceived as in today's day and age. New, innovative and unique ideas are flowing everywhere, and those bringing these ideas to life are millenials, creative and fearless, looking for the double bottom line of making profit as well as providing a valuable service. Look back two or three decades, and the picture is completely different. It was a time when most college graduates were satisfied with the safety of a well-paid job, and didn't dare to look outside of it. Entrepreneurship was considered a phenomenon only pursued by the ambitious Steve Jobses of the world. So what has changed in the short span of twenty, thirty years? The Techno...
